Mafizur Rahman took his BSc (Civil Engineering) at Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), after which he has established his academic and research career in environmental engineering. He obtained his PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan. Professor Mafizur’s research expertise includes climate change impacts on food security, climate change and water environment, alternate water resources in urban and rural areas of developing countries, environmental and water resources engineering with GIS application. He is currently working as a professor at the Department of Civil Engineering (Environment) at BUET and is also a visiting professor at the University of Tokyo, Japan. In addition to academic assignments, he has served at a number of international and national organisations, including the UN bodies, UNDP, ADB and UNICEF. He has published widely in international and national peer-reviewed journals, as well as writing book chapters and book proceedings.
